Conductive Music Workshops

Key Stage 2 had two days of Conductive Music Workshops. The fabulous Mr E showed us how to use technology to make music. Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) experiment was to see if we could create music by completing a human circuit. We had to be holding both positive and negative cables to make this happen. Once we had a complete circuit, we could make music!  We were even shown how to make a paper keyboard (drawn with a graphite pencil) into a real-life working keyboard by connecting wires to each key we had drawn and to an electronic device called a Makey Makey. We have discovered that as humans and having water naturally in our bodies, we will conduct electricity. Skin to skin contact allows our bodies to transfer the moisture which completes the circuit. If we had something restricting this, such as clothing, we could not complete the circuit. We found out we could complete circuits by touching the ears of our partner! It was amazing to see so many smiling faces rise to each challenge.
